Data Comm is one of the transformational programs supporting the Next Generation Air Traffic Control System (NextGen). When instituted, Data Comm will transform flying for the American public by streamlining digital air traffic control, minimizing flight delays and improving an already safe system.

Data Communications will enable air traffic control information to be exchanged between controllers and pilots, and auto-loaded directly into aircraft flight management systems. This capability will decrease the reliance on voice communications and significantly reduce opportunities for errors. It will also allow better reroutes around weather and provide more predictible gate to gate timing.
